It was the morning and I was watching this heron trying to catch breakfast, the hard part was trying to get in it in focus. It kept moving among the weed, until it was close to catching the fish. When the fish was caught, it took few seconds to get int in focus and was able to grap this picture. The heron quickly swallowed the fish and moved on.

Picture like this is hard to plan for, a bird about to catch a fly. I was taking pictures of this Common Yellowthroat as it moved from shrub to shrub, giving me second or two to take its picture. In this case I was taking pictures as it was perched, it took to the air. It was still in my camera's view as I was clicking away, got the picture just as its about to catch the fly in the air.

This Black-billed Magpie with two others kept harassing the Barred Owl until it flew away. Just in case the owl would not return, the magpies were right behind the owl until moved it was far away.

Just as I arrived to the open field on a cold rainy morning, a friend pointed out the Cooper's Hawk perched on a dead tree middle of the field. I quickly parked the car and got close as possible to take the picture. The hawk was in no hurry to take off, it stayed put and looked over the field for some time before deciding to leave.

Couple of goslings were being aggressive with each other, just as quickly they started fighting they stopped.

The two parents (one out of the picture) take the two few days old goslings to the other side of the river. The water was fast moving, but with help from their parents the two goslings made it to the other side safely.

Where ever the female went the two males followed. She decided to fly away and the two males were right behind her, each male doing its best to be chosen for mating.

The female Mallard waits for her mate to cross the tracks, who pauses long enough for me to grab few pictures. Not sure what brought them to the track, grain or simply they were going from one pool of the water to another.

The leaves were pushing their way out, as spring is making its way into summer. This morning the sparrow was easily spotted, but soon little more effort will be required to spot the birds on the trees and on the ground where the grass is growing. The valley will be covered by summer colours soon.

Every year there are few rare sighting of birds not often seen in the area. Few days ago this beautiful Western Tanager was spotted catching insects in the air and on ground. After each catch it would perch nearby, providing an opportunity for pictures. A show that went on for half an hour.

With the large varity of species and the various place they can be found, there is no end to the amount of pictures I can take of birds. Here the Savannah Sparrow singing away while perched on top of a small spruce tree, with the morning light popping it from the background.
Every year I'll come across few species of owls, often one of those tend to be the Barred Owl. Normally I'll locate them after I hear their call. In this case, I was heading home when I head a single note by the owl. The sound was coming from the direction I was headed, got my camera ready and started scanning the area front of me as I walked. Couple of minutes later I located the owl, took the pictures and then it was time to cook for me.

Few mornings back I spotted these three Mallard Ducks head down in the shallow water looking for food. It was hard to pass on the picture, just like the way they look.

The two geese were in the shade and the back ground in the setting sunlight. I panned the camera and starting taking their pictures, getting this blurred but art like picture.

To see more of nature one has to blend in and not stand out. I spent few hours behind a tree from a snow storm, watching these two Bald Eagles perched on a nearby balsam popular tree. I took pictures of them and learned about them as they reacted to their surrounding. In the case of this picture, the eagle on the top flew after geese that landed on the river nearby. On its return both started calling out as the storm continued.

Yesterday winter pushed its way back into the mountains, everything was covered by snow agian. The American Robins were back on the trees looking for left over fruit.

Few days back we were out birding in the snow. Even with snow falling, there was enough light coming through to take pictures. We came across these two Common Mergansers, resting on a log. I slowly moved closer and kept taking pictures with the snow falling. It seems warm weather is taking its time coming through for these birds.
