Marble Canyon

Amar

Every year during the snowmelt, I try make it to Marble Canyon to watch the falls and to take few pictures. I was joined by a friend, as we headed for the canyon in Kootenay NP dark clouds were gathering. Conditions were perfect for long exposures, water in full force, low light and background music provided by dippers. Got the pictures just in time, clouds opened up soon after the car left the parking lot.

Mountain Goat

This one year old with two older mountain goats were hanging out near the bottom of the valley. Looking for important minerals to digest and eating plants as well. It was  nice treat see them up close, since I have been watching them from a distance for several months.

Low Clouds

Low clouds were passing through the Yoho Valley in Yoho NP. Its  a beautiful place to visit, but that morning the low clouds made it that much more special. I stopped at few spots to take pictures, including taking pictures of the trees with the clouds passing through them.

Great Blue Heron

It was the morning and I was watching this heron trying to catch breakfast, the hard part was trying to get in it in focus. It kept moving among the weed, until it was close to catching the fish. When the fish was caught, it took few seconds to get int in focus and was able to grap this picture. The heron quickly swallowed the fish and moved on.

Common Yellowthroat

Picture like this is hard to plan for, a bird about to catch a fly. I was taking pictures of this Common Yellowthroat as it moved from shrub to shrub, giving me second or two to take its picture. In this case I was taking pictures as it was perched, it took to the air. It was still in my camera's view as I was clicking away, got the picture just as its about to catch the fly in the air.

Cooper's Hawk

Just as I arrived to the open field on a cold rainy morning, a friend pointed out the Cooper's Hawk perched on a dead tree middle of the field. I quickly parked the car and got close as possible to take the picture. The hawk was in no hurry to take off, it stayed put and looked over the field for some time before deciding to leave.

Moon over Goat's Eye Mountain

I was headed to Sunshine's parking lot, when I looked toward my left and up, I saw the moon rising. I wanted to take a picture of it, it was just a matter of composition. When I came by Goat's Eye Mountain, I knew I had my picture. The plane was a bonus.

Grizzly's Cub

The picture was taken a month ago, when this cub was about four months old. It was late in the day, cold in the air and light rain was falling. This cub and its sibling never ventured far from their mother and she always had her protective eyes on them. When this cub walked up to its mother and the way it looked up toward her, it made my day.

Grizzly

A three and a half year old grizzly has been spending way to much time near the town area. For its safety it was tagged 144 and collared to better keeps tracks of its where about. Its first year without its mother will be tough, but its a step all bears have to go through.

Lamb

This lamb just about a week old was bit shy about being in public. While the adults were out in the open, the lamb took its time joining them. They had made their way down to the bottom of the valley, probably for the first time for this lamb. Its growing pretty fast and gainning confidence each day, before long it will be running with the big boys and girls.

Mountain Goats

While watching the mountain goats from the bottom of the valley, I was taken back to days in the classroom when studying Greek mythology. The goats like the mythological gods watching over from above, while a mortal looking above in amazement.
